MTN calls for regulatory harmonisation across Africa

MTN Group’s fintech revenue grew year on year, boosted by outstanding performance in Ghana, Cameroon, and South Africa.

MTN Group says its team discussed working through partnerships to drive and advocate for accelerated digital and financial inclusion across Africa.

As part of its commitment to supporting national priorities and fostering sustainable societies, MTN is building up 52 basic health clinics in Nigeria.

The company said the increase in data was led by improved data bundle offerings, wide network coverage and enhanced capacity.

During its first quarter results, the telco outlined plans to counter Nigeria’s economic turbulence, including engaging with the authorities for the leeway to increase pricing.

The R&D centre will focus on 5G, artificial intelligence, data analytics, cloud computing, and digital financial services.

This follows recent changes to MTN Group's leadership structure, which took effect on 1 April.

Bayobab acquired additional fibre operating licences in critical markets, including Uganda, Côte d'Ivoire, and the Central African Republic.

Overall fintech revenue growth increased by 21.8% year-on-year, with other key developments proving their worth.

The telco is seeing growth in fibre-to-the-home, 4G adoption as well as usage of its MoMo services.

The telco launched 4G-enabled smartphone, IKOSORA+, as part of the Connect Rwanda 2.0 campaign during a ceremony in Kirehe.
